SPECIALTIES.

ART, LIVE-VISUALS AND SCENOGRAPHY

Alyona Movko-Mägi is a mixed media and installation artist whose work explores the intersection of art, technology, and human experience. Born in Tallinn, Estonia in 1984, Movko-Mägi received her Bachelor of Engineering degree from Tallinn University of Technology and continued her studies in the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre at the Audiovisual Composition Department and is currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts degree at the Estonian Academy of Art.

Since 2015, Movko-Mägi has primarily worked in time-based media, participating in a variety of projects, festivals, music, and theatrical events and experiments as an audiovisual artist and VJ. She has performed live on various stages, halls, and platforms, using her experience as a synesthete to express her visual perception of the world through music and vice versa. In 2017, Movko-Mägi began to focus on scenography, creating compositions and theatrical video sets that enhance the viewer's perception and play with the subconscious, exploring the delicate balance between intimacy and alienation. Through her art, Movko-Mägi seeks to reveal the inextricable link between image and sound and to recreate her perception of the world.

Movko-Mägi's background in engineering and her extensive experience in live music and performance have led her to constantly seek out a connection between science, free intuition, and technology. As someone who was born in the USSR, the question of national identity is especially important to the artist, and her art often reflects the presence of a "lost generation" of people without nationality.

In her recent work, Movko-Mägi has been exploring the aesthetics of artificial intelligence and its limitations in the field of art, as well as the concept of the "metahuman." She is interested in how the visualization of the forms found in nature can blur the boundaries between the explicit and the fictional, bringing the concept of the virtual world into a natural continuation of being. Movko-Mägi's art also reveals subliminal awkwardness and humor, reflecting the subconscious in a way that is both intriguing and unsettling.

Through her unique blend of engineering, music, and art, Movko-Mägi seeks to push the boundaries of what is possible in the field of mixed media and installation art, constantly searching for new ways to connect with her audience and reveal the hidden depths of the human experience.
